September Newsletter
Brethren, greetings from Lyons Lodge #93 the eastern most Masonic Lodge in Iowa. Br. Jeff Brown MI, and myself, survived a journey to Sioux City and the #166 Grand Lodge Communications on September 16th through 18th. We spent three and a half days in beautiful downtown Sioux City taking in the sites and enjoying food and drink. I was educated in the use of Bombay Sapphire, What I enjoyed most about the travel west was bonding with Br. Jeff and sharing many laughs over the 720 mile trip.
The highlight of Grand Lodge was watching Br. Jeff being installed as Most Worshipful Grand Senior Deacon in the Grand Lodge. I’m proud that the Grand Lodge of Iowa has selected two brothers from Lyons Lodge #93 to serve the past two years. Br. Jeff has set the bar that our Lodge produces leaders in the community and the state. I know that he will go further and accomplish much as a Grand Lodge officer.
As the Lodge representative, I’m must report that a resolution was passed increasing Grand Lodge due to $35.00 per brother effective January 1, 2011. These dues are paid by members through local Lodges to support the Grand Lodge in Cedar Rapids. I believe that in this tough economic time that increases in dues, services, and taxes need to be avoided to allow the economic recovery. This increase will affect many Lodge budgets and my concern, as Master of the Lodge, is the increase will be the factor in bringing a candidate into the fraternity! A resolution to have 50 plus year members pay Grand Lodge dues narrowly failed passage.
Br. Ray Druien will receive his Fellowcraft Degree on Wednesday, September 22, 2010. Lyons Lodge #93 has set Wednesday, October 20, 2010, for a PAST MASTERS NIGHT and 3RD DEGREE NIGHT for Br. Ray Druien. Br. Bill Clausen PM is taking reservations and setting the Cast for the Degree. The Lodge will have a Past Master dinner at 5:30 pm that can be attended by any Master Mason. The Degree will begin at 7:00 pm.
A Grand Lodge Reception will be held for Br. Jeff Brown MI at Gill’s Ballroom on Saturday, October 30, 2010. Lyons Lodge #93 will open at 4:00 pm with the introduction of the Most Right Worshipful Master Craig L. Davis, the present, and past Grand Lodge Officers. The Lodge will close and the Reception will begin at Gill’s Ballroom at about 5:00 pm. Area Lodges are invited to attend the Reception.
In Masonry,
