May 2010 Newsletter

I can’t say enough about the Brothers that stepped to the plate and cleaned, prepared, cooked, washed dishes, and waited tables for the Lyons Lodge #93 Annual Pancake Breakfast.  Br. Jeff Brown JW, MI, contacted the membership and put together a work schedule that brought out Brothers that recommitted themselves to the Lodge.  Br. Wayne Lind PM [1975] and Br. Scott Matthews ate breakfast and attended the Stated Meeting in June.  The Lodge made over $2,000.00 after expenses and served over 400 customers.  Congratulations to all those Brothers that worked the event this year!

As Master of the Lodge, distributing Grand Lodge Scholarships to recipients chosen for their academics, school activities, and community service display the beneficence of Free Masonry.  On May 20, 2010, I attended the Clinton High School Convocation for Seniors and presented a $2,000.00 Scholarship to Grace Shemwell.  I had an opportunity to eat breakfast at Lyons Lodge with Grace and found her a deserving recipient of the Grand Lodge Award.  Grace is respectful and driven to be successful toward achieving her goals.  On June 2, 2010, Lyons Lodge held a public reception and presented Grand Lodge Technical Scholarships to two Northeast High School Seniors; Jeb Rogis and Brandon Bormann.  I was pleased to present Grand Lodge Awards in the amount of $1,250.00 to both of these fine young men.

The annual Lyons Lodge #93 vs. Camanche Lodge #60 Fishing Tournament will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2010, with fishing beginning at 5:00 am.  All Lodge Teams must have their catches weighed at the Clinton Masonic Center downtown by 1:00 pm.  We will fry the fish and begin serving at 4:00 pm.  This event is a membership drive and inviting a friend to fish and share in the comradery is encouraged.  The Lodge that weighs in the most fish wins the trophy which currently is in possession of Camanche Lodge #60.
Remember, no explosives, nets, or shopping at Schafer Fishery will be permitted.  The annual Outdoor Degree will be held the following week on Friday, August 6, 2010, at the Izaac Walton League on Hwy #136 near the Gulf Course.

Please come to Lodge on Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at 7:00 pm for the Third Degree for Shannon Spooner.  I’m impressed with Candidate Spooner and his ability to read lips although he is hearing impaired.  He has worked hard through the First and Second Degrees with perfection and deserves the support as he is raised to a Master Mason.

In closing, Lyons Lodge is not about who sits in the East; but about the Brothers that work to improve their ritual as a Mason and contribute to the community.

In Masonry,

Dave Jindrich WM
