Roles in Lodge
As we head into the New Year I would like to take time to outline our responsibilities to each other and to the Lodge. Many of you already go above and beyond the call to duty. These are merely suggestions, which may become a rising tide to elevate all boats. If you have and suggestions for modifications, please let me know. I believe this will give many a direction to be able to run with the ball and continue to improve our Lodge through each member’s growth in Masonry.
All Members
--Attend as frequently as you can all our events
--Recruit strong candidates
--Read as much as you can in general and more specifically about Masonry—remember the lessons of the
Middle Chamber Lecture in the 2nd degree and the education emphasis
New Members
--By attending frequently you will get to know us and expand your Masonic knowledge
--Read Freemasonry for Dummies and try to read another introductory book
--Consider what roles you would like to take in Lodge—leadership, ritual, education,
relief, improvements of infrastructure, joining an appendant body
--Pursue that role aggressively
--Give thought to entering the line of chairs
--Compete for the Ashler Award
--Consider committing the Posting Lecture to memory and perform it in a regional school
Past Masters
--Mentor a newly-made Mason
--Continue your frequent attendance
--Bring in a younger member into York or Scottish Rites
--Consider taking new roles in ritual
--Call a Brother you know well who doesn’t frequently attend and offer to drive him
--Continue/resurrect any positive change initiatives you started as Master
--Consider attending Grand Lodge
--Lead by example through your attendance, dress, conduct, and ritual
--Consider bringing someone into an appendant body
--Teach someone your part in ritual

General
--Attend all meetings—let me know if you cannot make any meeting
--Read a Masonic book this year
--Familiarize yourself with the Masonic websites
Tyler (Norm Hutcheson)
--Set up officers’ aprons and jewel on their chairs before lodge
--Wash the candidate’s clothes after each 3rd degree
--Be a welcoming force to all visiting Brothers
Junior Steward (Les Duff)
--Help organize monthly meals
--Learn Senior Steward and Way Farer/Sea Captain part
Senior Steward (Les Duff and Jason Bush)
--Help organize monthly meals
--Learn the Ruffian parts
--Commit to going through all the chairs by the end of this year
Junior Deacon (Joe Daniels and Tom Rodgers)
--Organize meals each month with the help of the Stewards
--Learn the Craftsman parts and consider a longer part such as the perambulations,
charges, or other lectures such as apron or trowel
--Consider joining an appendant body
--Start working on the Door Lecture by November
Senior Deacon (Larry Lieb, Les Duff, and Glenn Lockhart)
--Meet visitors and be prepared to introduce or know who will introduce them
--Be the leader of the floor work (Deacons and Stewards)
Treasurer
--Lead yearly audit of books in January
Secretary
--Too many to enumerate and I am too ignorant to be able know where to start
Elected Officers
General
--Attend all meetings, if you will be gone please find your replacement (degrees too)
--Lead by example in attendance, dress, conduct, performance
--Make a resolute attempt to attend all charity events
--Read a Masonic Book this year
--Join a research society to obtain the publications this year
--Have your ritual down for all three degrees
--Bring in a new member
--Try to present something in open lodge
--Consider joining the York or Scottish Rites
Junior Warden (Dick Fulton and Norm England)
--Take out the garbage after all meetings
--Learn an extended part such as a charge, trowel lecture, perambulations, apron
lecture, or middle chamber lecture
--Learn the 1st degree master part
--Be a key force for the Memorial Day breakfast
--Read Warden’s Handbook on Grand Lodge’s Website
--Formulate your goals for you Master Year and work toward satisfying these
Senior Warden (Don Prior, Norm England, and George Towers)
--Take charge of scholarship dinner in the Spring
--Learn the 2nd degree Master part
--Learn the 18 questions and answers in the 2nd section of the 1st degree
--Be a key force for the Christmas dinner
--Read Master’s Book on Grand Lodge’s Website
--Be prepared to assume the East in the Master’s absence
Worshipful Master (Glenn L., George T., Dick F., Bill S.,and Randy A.)
--Learn 3rd degree Master part + King Solomon
--Be a key force for the Flight breakfast
--Offer something of substance to the group at each meeting
--Keep Website updated
--Send out quarterly newsletters
--Consider proceeding to MI/DL
--Keep your enthusiasm high
--Plan on where you want to focus your efforts after your Master year
