Greetings from the East

It was pointed out to me at the last stated meeting that I only have to open the lodge four more times as Master assuming that the new line will be ready to take over and do it for the December meeting.  That was a little shocking to me.  It seems that the year has just started yet it is rushing by as I write this newsletter.
We have fallen short as of late of some of our hopes for the year.  Due to a lack of interested golfers we were unable to host the golf tournament to support the Hope Lodge Fund raiser and that was a disappointment to me and some of the other brothers at Arcadia.  Also we fell short on interest for our annual Table Lodge and as of now need to postpone, hopefully for another date soon.  I am guessing that it is a sign of the times.  People are finding less money available for worthy causes and leisure activities and the need for charity will continue to grow in our communities.
It was brought up at the last stated meeting to take part in the local Farmer’s Market Kid’s Day in September.  We had some brothers who said that they would help work at the market by borrowing the train from Nevada Lodge #99 and charge for rides while raising money for our charity account or Hope Lodge or whatever we decide to designate the funds for but we had some concerns about liability raised at the meeting.  Brothers, if we get enough help there to run it properly we should have no trouble with doing this project.  I do not know who to talk to about the liability concerns but we should be able to do this and raise some funds for a worthy cause.
Let us not get caught up in what we cannot do but what we can do as fraternity or society of friends and brothers working together to improve our community.  I would also hope that we can start to work together in brotherly love rather than pointing out shortcomings in a public fashion, we should whisper good counsel in the ear of a brother.  I am not speaking to anything in particular.
It was my hope that this year would be about the trowel and spreading the cement of brotherly love and affection to unite our lodge rather that dividing it into splinters who are not happy about one thing or another.  We all get caught up in what is going on in our daily lives and sometimes forget about other things.
I have been one of those people this year.  I apologize for my shortcomings as a leader and can only say that I am trying to do my best at this job.  Sometimes our best is not good enough.  With other distractions in my life Arcadia has not always had my focus and the attention that it deserves.  I will try to finish the year on a positive note but I need your help brothers.
Let us get behind this project of operating the train for a fund raiser and work as a group of brothers.  It will be discussed at the next stated meeting and I hope to have as many of you there as possible to offer insight as well as information about liability concerns etc.  I would like to have a meal before the August meeting of Sweet Corn and Bologna.  It was a fun meal that used to be served in my home town by a local church and I would like to do that for the August meeting.
I look forward to seeing you at the meeting and thank you for allowing me to serve as Master.

Fraternally,

Paul Miller
Worshipful Master

**** SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT ****

ARCADIA LODGE and THE BLOOD CENTER OF IOWA would like to announce Ames first all community blood drive and invite all Masons and their friends and family to sign up and make this worthy cause a success!
It will be held at
ARCADIA MASONIC LODGE
107 ALEXANDER AVE
AMES IA

AUGUST 7th 2009
2:30 pm-6:30 pm

This will be the first of many to come! This is a very worthy event for the Arcadia Masons to be proud to sponsor and volunteer at. This is at no cost to the lodge and 1 pint of blood can save up to 3 lives and there is no more noble cause then that. Not everyone has money to donate and with economic times the way they are there is no better way to still be able to help out and donate blood. The total process is about 45 minutes and we will need some volunteers to help out with set up and tear down at any of the above time frame.
Mark your calendars down if you are not able to make this date we will be having another one on OCTOBER 2nd 2009, same time and place. Don’t be afraid to donate twice either!
HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL THERE AND BRING EVERYONE YOU KNOW TIME SLOTS ARE FILLING UP FAST!!

Brothers,

My sincerest apologies that our ever faithful and great secretary of the lodge had made mention to me to add the following reminder to the newsletter for August and I had forgotten:

Please if you have not paid your dues for the 2009 year please do so as soon as you are able. As many of you know or don’t know, we are a non-profit fraternity that relies on the faithfulness and goodwill of our members to aide in financially supporting our lodge every year.  This is a luxury and a privilege that we should not take for granted. If you are having tough financial times I would encourage that you remember your first degree, and make another worthy brother aware of your situation, and I am sure that someone will step up to aide you. If it is or has been a simple oversight then please remit as soon as you are able.

Thank you all so much for your support and in another privilege in allowing all of us to share in common ground and brotherhood.  On that note and why I am reaching out to all of you I would invite you out this Thursday night to lodge for a 3rd degree at 7pm. I would personally love to see all those that can make it!

I hope your summer is all going well for you and God Bless our soldiers past and present may you keep them in your thoughts and prayers forever!

Fredrick Killian
