Greetings from the East

At the July stated meeting, we received three petitions for the degrees of freemasonry.  Thus, we will be gearing up for a set of degrees in August.  On Monday, August 11th, we have tentatively scheduled a first degree.  On Tuesday, August 12th, we have tentatively scheduled a 2nd degree.  And, we have tentatively scheduled a 3rd degree on Thursday, August 14th.  We have three impressive men hoping to join Arcadia and it would be great to have a good attendance of brothers at these degrees to fill the sidelines and to participate in a degree. 
Prior to the Stated Meeting in July, we decided to schedule a BBQ prior to the meeting and although we put it together in about a week, the attendance was great.  A special thanks goes to Brother Dave Baker and his wife Theresa for grilling the burgers, brats, and hot dogs for the evening, as well as bringing their grill to the lodge for the night.  From all accounts, I think we will probably continue a summer BBQ prior to the stated meeting in July in future years.
Also, the Lodge had an entry in the Ames 4th of July Parade.  Special thanks goes to Brothers Bob Harvey, Doug Petty, and Dave Baker for constructing and painting the sign which was placed in Brother Bill Yunglas' truck and driven through the parade.  Additionally, Brothers Josh Tostlebe, Dave Baker, Jeremy Davis, Jason Schaben, Nick Delahusey, and Marty Jacobs walked alongside the entry and passed out "10 Reasons to be a Mason" cards.  This was the first time in many years that the Lodge had an entry in a 4th of July parade.  And, what's more, we have a sign that can be used for a number of other events, including future parades!
On Friday, July 18th we will be hosting our annual Table Lodge at the Quality Inn on 13th Street.  In next month's newsletter, I will give a summary of how the Table Lodge festivities went and also discuss how much our Lodge contributed to the Hope Lodge project.
In looking to the future, the month of August and September will be busy with degree work.  Additionally, on September 19th and 20th, the annual communication of the Grand Lodge will occur in Des Moines.  A number of the officers will be attending Grand Lodge this year, and any other brother who would like to attend is more than welcome to do so. 
On September 6th, an all-masonic tailgate sponsored by the Grand Lodge will be held on the driveways of Brother's Davis and Yunglas (the Beach Avenue Brothers), prior to the ISU vs. Kent State Football Game.  Be sure to stop by that date.  More details will follow in the coming month.
