FREEMASONRY
~ A WAY OF LIFE ~

Greetings from the East,

Let me begin by apologizing to the Newsletter committee for my late submittal of this newsletter.  I have been running around like a chicken with my head cut off.  Yes, some of you may remember dressing chickens in your youth and what that looked like.  Between running my mother to Rochester for an appointment, putting her into the nursing home in my home town, finishing my school year in the classroom and other duties, prepping for my daughter’s graduation and a number of other things too numerous to mention, I forgot to submit this in a timely manner.  So when you are receiving this later than usual you will know why, it is my fault.

I want to begin by thanking the brothers who have graciously offered their time and services to work the food service at ISU dining and helping to replenish our charity account during the Odyssey of the Mind event at Iowa State.  Your efforts are timely and good.  Masons should ever remember that when we pitch in things do get done and we can provide some relief when people are in need and spread that cement of brotherly love and relief.

Our next opportunity to help a good cause will come in July.  In case you missed the last stated meeting or minutes we are going to help sponsor a golf tournament and the funds raised will be put toward a contribution to Hope Lodge and the fund raising efforts to meet the Grand Lodges’ three year commitment.  Come out to the stated meeting and see if you can help out.  There will be need for a few workers (6-7), the morning of the tournament on July 11th, 2009 or if you have interest in putting together a team to play we would welcome your entries.

I believe the tournament will be a four person best shot tournament with the cost of $100 per team to enter and play.  We will be sending out a flyer with details on that in the near future as well. Please do not hesitate to mention this opportunity to your friends who like to play early morning golf and would like to help this worthy cause.  I plan to work the tournament and not play that day.

The Oblong Square Club has decided to keep meeting over the summer and we may be asked to host one of those meetings since we are an air conditioned lodge.  Look for more details to come or watch for details from the stated communication minutes.  I would like to see more of our members getting involved with this opportunity to work on learning a part in one of the degrees to become involved in initiating some new brothers to this great fraternity.

Finally, do not forget the Grand Master’s Leadership Conference the week of June 13 and if you are interested in attending the cost of $100 will pay for your materials, meals, possibly provide a small donation to the Hope Lodge Fund.

Again, I apologize for my tardiness and will try not to let things get in the way of my duties at the Lodge again.  If I have caused any undo anxiety over this I am very sorry.

I continue to look forward to serving you as Master and thank you for your support and patience.

Fraternally,
Paul Miller
Worshipful Master
