Greetings from the East
Brothers, things keep rolling on and the degree work does not stop. We have degrees scheduled in April and May and may have more petitions coming. If you want an opportunity to work please contact David Baker to assist on any upcoming third degree, Marty Jacobs to work in a second degree, or Fredrick Killian to work on a first degree. I know that we will have a number of third degrees coming up after our second degrees on April 16, 2009.
Everyday we have an opportunity to spread the cement of brotherly love and affection. It can be in donating our time, financial support, or just as simple as smiling and saying hello to someone who looks like they need a lift. Do not forget to use that especial tool that you have, whatever your special gift may be, and use that trowel to spread the cement. The Great Architect has provided us all with gifts, they come in many forms. I challenge you all to look at your lives and see if there is a place you can make a difference in any large or small way for someone you know.
In the past we have been spoiled with the opportunity to work at the ISU dining hall to raise some fast cash for our charity account. Last year was a time that those opportunities did not arise and our charity account suffered as well as our ability to provide support to some of the requests we received. Last year we did not work at the ISU food service and we missed out on a chance to replenish the charity account. This year it appears that we will have this opportunity to pick up over $500 by working some breakfasts from May 26th – May 30th. We need volunteers to help with serving and if you can help please contact either Justin Dodge or Bill Yungclas. These brothers have agreed to lead our volunteers and assist in raising this money.
IF we would have enough people available we could possibly even work two groups and make twice as much for our charity account. In these trying times we may have more requests than usual and I hope that we will have the assets available to meet any requests that we receive to continue to spread some cement.
We will also begin the Quillow project on May 16th and need materials, sewing machines, and people to help with this project. I see it as a family day at the lodge and we should plan a potluck or lunch for this day. Again, an opportunity to spend time as brothers working on our trowel work and providing a heartwarming gift for those suffering from cancer and spending time in Hope Lodge.
I am open to suggestions for any fundraiser project that we could do later this summer or early this fall to help raise funds for our charity account and other projects. I would like to raise some funds for Hope Lodge that we as Arcadia can give in addition to our Change for Hope jar that we continue to contribute to each month. We as a lodge can do these things if we come together to work and agree on a project.
I would also like to thank my line officers who have been working to make this year a success. Their work takes place at the meetings but also behind the scenes and everything is appreciated although I may forget to say thanks sometimes I want them to know that I appreciate their efforts. Even when they cannot make every meeting they are communicating with me and that makes all the difference in keeping things running smoothly.
I get to rambling sometimes but I also wanted to let you know that we did not have many brothers sign up for the $6 meal before last month’s stated communication. I hope that will change in the future and that if we are treated as well as we were last month by the White Shrine, you will realize that you are missing out on a great meal and a chance to break bread with your brothers. There was roasted pork loin and potatoes, a cheesy cauliflower dish, salad and dessert. I am saying that if you missed it you were disappointed and you do not even know it. That was one of the best meals that I have had there in a long time and I believe that it was a foretaste of what will be coming. So please do not forget to register for the meal before the May meeting if you can make it because I am sure that it will be another great meal.
I continue to look forward to serving you as Master and thank you for your support and patience.
Fraternally,
Paul Miller
Worshipful Master
