Greetings from the East,
Brethren, I apologize for this late submission, but I wanted to wait until after Grand Lodge. We again qualified for the Lodge of the Year Award and this is a feather in your caps for all the effort you put in and good work that you do at Arcadia.
As they announced the winners of the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards I had hoped to hear Arcadia’s name called but in a way I did not expect it. Brothers you can blame me for this. My concerns have been in building or rebuilding some fraternal bonds and mending some of the bonds in our lodge. The awards are nice to receive but I feel that the brotherhood and unity that we share is more important than those tokens to hang on our walls. I have fallen short even in my leadership in this area at times getting caught up in my own personal issues and dealing with my own depression. I apologize for shortchanging the lodge and ask your understanding and forgiveness.
I also want to apologize to those who were planning our meal before the September stated meeting and I canceled the meal. I was not thinking of your feelings but was thinking that we would have a low turnout due to the ISU home opener and did not want to offend you by having a low turnout for the meal. I looked at it from my perspective and not from the perspective of those working to prepare the meal. I apologize again for my shortsightedness and ask for your forgiveness.
As my year is winding down, I want to talk about the future of Arcadia. Brothers if receiving the Lodge of the Year Awards is important to you and you want to bring some of that hardware back to Arcadia then it is time to start working toward that goal now. The time for accumulating points for these has begun and based on conversations with some of the officers at Grand Lodge I think it is one of their goals to renew Arcadia’s place as one of the best lodges in Iowa.
The October stated communication has traditionally been a night for a Rusty Nail Night and we will try to renew that with the review of the modes of recognition, grips, etc. David Baker, has another Blood Drive organized for Friday, October 2nd and we need people to come out and donate. Please spread the word and support this worthy cause. David Baker has also organized the hayride again this year for the weekend of October 4 and following that plans to travel to Eldora to Pine Lake and have a potluck at the lodge. He thought that it would be a great opportunity to view the fall foliage and have some family fellowship. If you are able to attend then come on out for a great day! October 15th is also slated for our Table Lodge and we need your support for that. Come out and buy a ticket and plan to attend on Thursday, October 15. Tickets are available and can be purchased at the stated meeting.
In November, we are planning to honor our past masters before the stated meeting and will hold elections. So plan to make reservations for that night and come out to see some friends and brothers as well as vote for the officers to lead us in the coming year. I know that if things go as expected that the Worshipful Master-Elect has plans for a great year and it all begins with you. Brothers let us get behind this brother who is elevated for a short time and assist him in his plans for Arcadia and building our fraternity.
Fraternally,
Paul Miller
Worshipful Master
