The Trestleboard |

Our Past Master"s night was a great success. We had 17 Past Masters and 2 Past Grand Masters present. After enjoying a delicious stuffed pork dinner Worshipful Master Robert Happ introduced the Past Masters and the year or years they served.
A program presented by Two by Two, one of the recipients of a grant from the Schenck Trust. It was on a program they give at the Dubuque area schools to the second and fourth grade children. It teaches them the proper care and treatment of animals. It also teaches the cost of caring and how fast the can multiple if not properly treated. The program was very informative and enjoyed by all.
By the time you receive this trestleboard Alex Stocker will have received his Second Degree, it was held on Monday September 22. We will keep you posted as to his Third Degree and hope you can come down and join us.
Several members from Mosaic attended Grand Lodge in Des Moines. It is always and enjoyable time not only to set in on Grand Lodge but also a time to visit with brothers you have not seen for some time.
We will receive a report on Grand Lodge at our October meeting. Speaking about our regular meeting on October 14, 2008, Edwin Blinks, P.G.M. will have the program and I believe he has invited the incoming Grand Master to present his program for the year.
The refreshments following the meeting will be furnished by Brian Kelley and Tom McKeon.
I know there are some who have been away from lodge for a while and would like to come but hesitate to come down for fear they have forgotten how to get into lodge or may not know any of the brothers, I am sure if you do come down you will be surprised. Many of the brothers you know are still active member of the lodge and we do think about you. So give it a try and come on down!!!
We still have a few who have not paid their 2008 dues. If they are not paid by our November meeting, according to the code it will be necessary to drop them from the rolls. We hope this will not be the case.
Worshipful Master
Robert Happ

Summer is rapidly drawing to a close, the kids will be heading back to school, if they have not already done so, you wonder where the summer has gone.
We have had a busy month with degree work. On July 30 we raised James Kendell to the sublime degree of a Master Mason, several brothers from Bellevue came up to witness his degree. On August 4 we met again to raise Frank Lyons to the sublime degree of a Master Mason, then on August 20 we met to confer the Entered Apprentice Degree on Alexander Stocker. Russell Hibben will be working with Brother Alex in his advancement through the degrees. It is great having this degree work going on and to receive these young men into the lodge. We look forward to having them take an active part in the lodge We hope you may be able to come down and witness some of the degrees and see the great work our officers do in conferring the degrees.
If by chance you have a part that you can do and it has been some time since you have been asked to participate, let us know, we would be more than glad to have you help out and take a part. It always great to have brothers on the sidelines.
Prior to our September 9, 2008 meeting we will be honoring our Past Master's. We will have a catered dinner at 6:00 P.M., that will be free of charge, the wives are invited to join us. Follwoing dinner we will have a special program from Two by Two, one of our grant recipients. This group has an educational program they present to younger age children and it teaches them the proper care and treatment of animals. This should be a very interesting program. We hope you can come join us and see how our grant monies are being use. We will need reservation and you can make them by calling Keith Robertson at 583-1322 by September 5, 2008.
Grand Lodge will be held in Des Moines this year on August 18 - 19 - 20, with the Grand Lodge School being on the 18th. We have several brothers going to represent Mosaic. This communication is open to all Master Mason's, so if you would care to go down let one of us know so we can car pool to save some of the travel expenses.
We look forward to seeing you at our communications on the second Tuesday of each month.

Another successful Pork Chop Dinner was held August 7 at the Masonic Temple. It was estimated that about 100 people attended. This was used as a fund raiser for Hope Lodge and a check for $500 has been sent to Grand Lodge.. A big vote of thanks goes to all who helped prepare and serve the food and those who did the clean-up afterwards. We also thank the wives who baked all the delicious cakes for the event. The DeMolay boys were a great help throughout the evening with serving and clean-up.
Our 'Change for Hope Lodge' Mason jar continues to raise funds and another $60.00 has been sent. This is not a large amount but the jar keeps reminding us that Iowa Masons have committed to helping secure funds for the construction of Hope Lodge and so far this year, our Brothers have added about $130.00 using the jar.
During the month, Royce Turner was raised to the degree of a Master Mason and James Young was passed to the Fellow Craft degree. WE have several more petitions waiting approval.
Our Lodge hosted a New Master Masons meeting during the month, conducted by Grand Lodge Secretary William Crawford and our own Jack Butler.
School supplies for the Christmas gift bags for Fulton and Prescott schools. Thank you to Brother Bob Young and his crew for moving the supplies from St. Mark Center to the Temple.
Plans are underway to hold a Masonic picnic on September 21 at the Oxus Grotto. Information about this event has been distributed to all Masonic bodies, but if you have any questions, call or e-mail me at Elkerk@mchsi.com or 815-747-3292.

Regular communication
Friday, sept. 12, 2008
Tri-State Mornigh Lodge #673 meets on the second Friday of each month at 10:30 am. We meet and have our business meeting, etc., and we are adjourned in time to attend Hi Twelve, which happens at 12:00 o’clock a.m.
We are a very informal group and we try to make our meeting comfortable to attend.
Some of the things we try to do is to make our Iowa ritual understandable to everyone who attends. Sometimes we get Iowa/Wisconsin/Michigan ritual entangled within the meetings, and we have a lot of fun straightening things out!
Come and join us and we’ll be happy to have you help us in our struggles.
York Rite
Hi from Wayne!
August brings the end of the summer. School starts soon. Our first regular meeting will be Tuesday, September 2. We will meet at Bishop's for supper at 5 before our meeting. All of us enjoy the good food and fellowship. We still met this summer.
If we can get to the Temple at 6 after supper, we can practice our ritual. We have lost several of our good ritualists the last few years. Need to help the replacements. Have several from Wisconsin. They are very good, but their ritual is different from ours. With a little help, they will feel more comfortable working with us. Wisconsin uses the 21 man opening. We use the 10 man, which is very different. Wisconsin has more floor work than we do.
Friday nights York Rite is scheduled for desk duty at the Temple. This would be a good night to practice ritual. Hope you enjoy what is left of the summer! Autumn is around the corner!

Hello Brothers!
We had a beautiful evening for our August meeting that we preceded with a delicious dinner at Bill's Tap.
We welcome a new member to our lodge, Brother Tim Castner, also a member at Tri-State 673 in Dubuque. Welcome Brother Tim!
We are making plans to attend the Grand Lodge in Des Moines September 18,19, and 20. The program promises to be entertaining and informative. We always have room for one more delegate...
The Brothers made a donation to and discussed the great work being done by Hillcrest Family Services. They are a real blessing to our communities.
Trowel Fellowship Picnic held at Osborn was very nice and the weather was nice that evening, too. Come to Lodge in September and find out more about future Trowel fellowship events.
We always have a lot of fun, some good food, and good fellowship, especially when you are there, so we'll see you at lodge and of course, we'll leave the light on for you.

Because the response to our golf outing on the 13th of September has not generated the additional participation necessary to make it a success, it is being cancelled and is being replaced by a workday at the Grotto. Mark the date on your calendar and join us at 8:00 AM. With the road work, parking lots, and final landscaping work now nearing completion, there will be both indoor and outdoor jobs to enhance the appearance of the place. One of the things we want to complete is the establishment of plantings on both sides of the entryway and along the west side of the building. We have a general plan and the edging materials, but your suggestions on how this might be best accomplished are welcome.

and hear an overview of the project from the Director of Marketing
and Sales.
Remember that everyone is welcome to join us for an evening
good fellowship. Social hour (cash bar) begins at 6:00 PM, followed

Greetings Sisters & Brothers:
Can you believe our Summer is about over. How time flys when you are having fun! We hope you have all enjoyed your summer and are ready for Fall activities.
We hope you will all plan to join us September 14th to welcome our Grand Officers to Julien Chapter. We will meet at 2:00 P.M. in the ballroom for greetings and entertainment and then to the small dinning room for a light lunch. This is a great opportunity to meet your Grand Officers of 2008. This is an open meeting and so you can invite non members to attend with you.
Our stated meeting will be September 16th and it will be good to start our Fall Meetings. We will honor our Past Matrons and Past Patrons. Several of our Past Matrons and Past Patrons are working Officers and continue to hold an office to keep our Chapter active. Join us to honor these Sisters and Brothers and to show our appreciation for the interest they continue to have for Julien Chapter.
We want to send a big thank you to Smoky (JAMES) McGovern for the beautiful job he did on recovering our chair in the Harry Muellich Room. It is great to have Smoky so willing to share his talent with us. Thanks Smoky!
Plan now for The One Hundred Thirty-First Grand Chapter Session in Des Moines, Iowa. Our 'Rejoice' Session will be October 23-26 2008 at the Downtown Marriott. Brother Russ and I plan to attend and so does Sister Arline Dieterich. It would be great if others could also attend.
The Sun Flower is one of the flowers that our Worthy Grand Matron chose for this year. I hope you are all seeing how beautiful they are this year. They have been very popular at our Farmers Market this year. The birds
also love these flowers. The Goldfinch which is our state bird really does enjoy the seeds that the Sunflowers produce. We enjoy watching these little birds in our backyard enjoying our Sunflowers.
